Help for a Question on Green Paper

I recently received this question in my email, and because I have no answer, I hope that you might be able to help this reader out with some suggestions.  Here's his question:

"I make 3D topographical maps using paper and glue.  My next piece is going to have 20 different layers going from a light shade at sea level to a dark shade at the top.  The problem that I've come across is that many of my local stores and national suppliers only seem to stock 5 or 6 different shades of a particular colour.  I was wondering if you had any knowledge as to where I could find a supplier that stocks 15-20+ different shades of green paper and could potentially ship internationally?"

  1. It might be worth looking into whether Pantone makes colored paper. I have no idea if they do or not, but there are so many Pantone colors, there may be enough shades of green.

    1. I'm the guy from the email. Thanks for the suggestion!
I've done some hunting around for Pantone paper. So far I've only managed to find an origami kit with official Pantone colours. The search continues!

    2. Bummer! Well, I found these sites:
      http://www.thepapermillstore.com/colors/green-paper
      http://discountcardstock.com/all/subcategory/Green_Cardstock/42_15.html
Hope that helps! It looks like you can get samples from both places instead of having to buy a whole ream, but I wasn't able to find anything that has a wide enough variety of colors in one package.

      Good luck!

    3. What search terms did you use? It'd be good to hone the search for NZ. My google-fu is weak in this particular field.

    4. I experimented with a bunch of different ones, but what tended to work the best was "colored paper", with the quotes around it. Then I added "where to find" and various other things. I'd also maybe try searching for paper crafts, paper crafting stores, art papers, art supply, or card stock, along with New Zealand and you might get some hits that way. Here are some hits I got when I searched for cardstock in New Zealand. For some reason, there seem to be more colors of cardstock than of normal paper.

      Hope this helps!

That 2nd link is perfect. Their colour range is magnificent. Thank you so very much.

I'll get in touch with them tomorrow about ordering a bunch.

I'll be making more of these with the paper if you were curious: http://imgur.com/a/mEL1k

    1. It's not a one off project so I would be looking for find a decent supplier for the future. However, I don't want to have to order more than I need.
